TRÄNEN ZU WEIN
In his debut video «Tränen zu Wein» (eng.: «Tears to Wine») the Austrian singer SALÒ (Andreas Binder) dissects the stages of a break up - of a love that failed. The central theme is the ignorant obsession of the lover, the struggle of the woman to free herself and finally his painful dissolution of the ego as the only possible exit strategy for a new beginning.
Andreas Binder, a.k.a. SALÒ decided somewhen last year to fully focus on his musical ambition - his first song to be released should be «Tränen zu Wein» («tears to wine»). Seeing an opportunity to somewhat go overboard with a music video, director Mario Hainzl and Gerfried Guggi (D.O.P.), became ambitious to create a visual rodeo around klischees of break ups. We formulated an idea that seemed so daunting at first, but were sure it would be rewarding at last.
Shooting this script we came up with was challenging but it introduced every person involved in new reflections upon love, freedom and nudity. The back story is a potpourri of inspiration drawn from literature, film, personal stories and other influences. We shoot a whole weekened straight, at times with over 60 people on set - the majority naked as god created them. Quite a trip.
